Titan Soccer Player Expectations
Players are expected to attend all soccer functions, training sessions (Monday-Friday), matches, meetings and the end of year awards night. Excusable absences are illnesses and emergencies. Should a player miss a function, it is always the player's responsibility to contact Coach Wagner, in person, as soon as possible. Failure to do so is considered an unexcused absence, regardless of the actual cause.
General:
- Titan soccer players are ambassadors of Wayne School of Engineering and will always represent our school to the best of their abilities in class, in the community, while traveling and during the off-season. Players will adhere to the academic honor code at all times. Any action disregarding these responsibilities carries disciplinary consequences to be determined by the coaching staff.
- Team Time is the most important part of being a Titan soccer player. Personal electronic devices are not to be used during team time. Violations will carry a one match suspension, repeated violations can be grounds for dismissal.
- All social media postings will be regarded as public statements. As such, players may not post profanity or derogatory language, inappropriate pictures or negative comments about the team, coaching staff, team members or their families, game officials, teachers or administrators, fans, opponents or opposing schools. Violations will carry disciplinary actions according to their severity, ranging from suspension to dismissal from the team.
For parents:
- Match day: We hope that, despite our matches being played in the afternoon, parents will be able to support our team a often as possible. After the match, parents may sign out their child after players are dismissed from the post-match team meeting. Players may only leave with their parent or guardian and, will ride the bus back from the away match site to WSE otherwise.
- To help parents plan ahead, practices and matches are posted bi-weekly or as they occur on the Titan Soccer webpage. We expect our players to be able to attend all training sessions in full and to be picked up at the designated time. While the coaching staff will not leave a player unsupervised after matches or practices, repeatedly failing to attend practices in full or late pickups will result in a player’s dismissal from the team.
Training Sessions:
Missing training sessions, tardies to or leaving training sessions early carry the following consequences:
- 1st time: 1 game suspension
- 2nd time: 2 game suspension
- 3rd time: 2 game suspension
- 4th time: dismissal
Matches and Team Functions:
- Missing a match or team function will result in long term suspension or dismissal from the team.
- To promote our match and minimize loss of instructional time, players wear team T-shirts and match shorts ( plus team hoodie, if needed) to school. Failure to follow the dress code carries a one match suspension.
- The Athletic Awards Ceremony is considered the last team function of the season for both men's and women's teams. It usually takes place during the 3rd week in May and all Titan soccer players must attend.
- On away match trips, all players will ride the bus to the match site. For the last away-match of the season, all players will ride the bus post-match to share a meal at a local restaurant before returning to school or be released to their parents. .
Academic Eligibility:
A player will be placed on probation, as soon as any grade falls below a 75. While these players remain on the team, they are limited to participate in training sessions only and may not feature in matches. Players on probation are required to attend academic help sessions if deemed necessary by their teacher. Scheduling such, outside of team time, will be the responsibility of the player.
Lost or broken WSE-issued Equipment:
All Titan soccer players are issued a ball, practice and match shorts. Lost or broken equipment is assessed to the player at new purchase price, at $45 per Select No.10 ball and $25 per pair of shorts.
With the acceptance of our invitation to join the Titan soccer family, all players and their parents agree to the above rules.
We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.
