Course Description
This course is a continuation from German i and II. Students will learn to perform intermediate level functions of the language and become more familiar with elements of German culture. Emphasis is placed on the continued development of the four skills of communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The content focuses on the students' lives and experiences, and includes an exposure to everyday German customs and lifestyles. Grammar is integrated throughout the course and is selected according to the relevant language functions. An exploration of German culture, its products (e.g., literature, laws, foods, games), perspectives (e.g., attitudes, values, beliefs), and practices (patterns of social interaction) is integrated throughout the course. Additionally, students gain insight into how languages and cultures work by comparing the German language and culture to their own.

Each nine weeks’ grade is composed of…
Tests 50%
Classwork 50%
(Class or group projects are TBD at this time)
Students are expected to complete homework assignments in their entirety, by the due date and while giving their best effort.
Students will take tests on grammar, vocabulary, culture, and listening comprehension.
Projects (TBD) will be completed and presented individually, with a partner or in groups.
As per WCPS board policy, the final exam will account for 20% of the course grade.

- three ring binder or notebook, pencils, erasers, sharpener
- Can of disinfecting wipes (daily use, 1 per class period per student)
- electronic device to access the internet, email and text capable
- recommended: pocket dictionary (Langenscheidt German/English on amazon.com )
Make-up work:
- Missed assignments/tests due to absences are made up in accordance with WCPS school board policy.
- Late work is scored as incomplete (Missing/0) in Powerschool until turned in and replaced by a numerical grade. Late work is accepted at a staring grade of 60. For extenuating circumstances such as medical or family emergencies to be considered, parents are asked to send an email with a brief explanation. DuoLingo assignments are submitted online only and must be complete and on time. Late or incomplete assignments cannot receive credit.
