Cougar Soccer Player Expectations
Players are expected to attend all soccer functions, practices, matches, meetings and the end of year awards night. Excusable absences are illnesses and sudden emergencies. Due to the NCHSAA covid-adjusted sports calendar, special allowances will be in place for dual-sport athletes. Should a player miss a soccer function or event, it is always the player's responsibility to contact Coach Wagner, in person, as soon as possible.
General:
Cougar soccer players are ambassadors of GHS/WSE and will always represent our two schools to the best of their abilities in class, in the community, while traveling and during the off-season. Players will adhere to the academic honor code at all times. Disregard of these responsibilities carries disciplinary action to be determined by the coaching staff.
Academic Eligibility:
A player will be placed on probation, as soon as any grade falls below a 75. While these players remain on the team, they are limited to participate in training sessions only and may not feature in matches. Players on probation are required to attend academic help sessions if deemed necessary by their teacher. Scheduling such, outside of team time, will be the responsibility of the player.
Lost or broken GHS/WSE-issued Equipment:
All Cougar soccer players are issued a ball. Lost or broken equipment is assessed to the player at new purchase price, at $45 per Select No.10 ball.
Missing practice or unexcused tardy/leaving early:
1st time: 1 game suspension
2nd time: 2 game suspension
3rd time: dismissal
Match day:
Missing a match or mandatory team function other than a practice unexcused will result in long term suspension or dismissal from the team.
On away match trips, all players will ride the bus to the match site.
For parents:
We hope that, despite current restrictions, parents will be able to support our team as often as possible. After each match, parents may sign out their child after players are dismissed from the post-match team meeting. Players may only leave with their parent or guardian and, on away match day, will ride the bus back to GHS/WSE otherwise.
To help you plan ahead, practice schedules are posted bi-weekly here on the Cougar Soccer webpage. We expect our players to be able to attend all training sessions in full and, if they are not driving themselves, to be picked up at the designated time. While the coaching staff will not leave a player unsupervised after matches or practices, repeatedly failing to attend practices in full or late pickups can result in a player’s dismissal from the team.
With the acceptance of our invitation to join the Cougar Soccer family, all players and their parents agree to the above rules.
